Test Results of Rossi E-CAT HT and HT2 LENR Device(s) Published to arXiv.org

The phys.org article Tests find Rossi's E-Cat has an energy density at least 10 times higher than any conventional energy source dated 5/23/2013 indicates that seven co-authors have published a paper concerning their independent energy measurements of the Andrea Rossi E-Cat HT and HT2 LENR (Low Energy Nuclear Reaction) device(s) to arXiv.org.  If correct, the results of the test indicate an energy density far beyond that of any other conventional energy sources, although not as great as nuclear (e.g. plutonium per the plot below).

LENR was initially colloquially termed "cold fusion" and made its debut in March 23, 1989 when Stanley Pons and Martin Fleischmann announced an as-yet unknown kind of nuclear reaction which could occur at room temperature.  At first there was much hope and fan fair as the public's imagination was captured by the potential of a cheap, clean, abundant and non-polluting energy source.  The hopes were dashed as Pons and Fleischmann (excellent chemists in their field) were quickly and unfairly thrown under the bus, as other scientists were unable to reproduce their results in short order (due in part to a tainted supply of palladium).  Pons and Fleishmann were also the victims of some ugly political intrigue.  For details, see Eugene Mallove's book Fire from Ice: Searching for the Truth Behind the Cold Fusion Furor.

The press/public have been disappointed once before.  Will the second time be the charm?  In the wake of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster the world could certainly use a new form of nuclear energy which produces no meltdowns or harmful nuclear waste.  Devices like Rossi's promise just that, clean, cheap, portable and abundant energy which produces no waste except for possibly the excess heat generated.  Although Rossi has his detractors I personally hope the man succeeds.
