Major Announcement by Blacklight Power, Inc. #CIHT #hydrino #LENR

"BlackLight Power, Inc. Announces Sustained Production of Electricity Using Photovoltaic Conversion of the Millions of Watts of Brilliant Plasma Formed by the Reaction of Water to a More Stable Form of Hydrogen" is a rather major press release which impacts the clean energy technology space and quantum physics as well.  I first started blogging about Blacklight Power, Inc. in 2010.  The company has been working on their own proprietary fractional quantum state hydrino technology for decades now.  Stock exists but was only issued as privately held shares, so you might have to look at SecondMarket or find someone who has some shares to do get some of their stock.

Imagine lower energy states than the first energy level orbit of hydrogen, which is universally accepted (taught in all the physics classes or textbooks) to be the very lowest-possible energy level that the electron can drop to.  Randell Mills founder and CEO of BlackLight Power, Inc. claims to have discovered and proven his own unique theory of the atom by which hydrogen atoms can be coaxed to drop to an even lower fractional quantum state than is currently accepted to be possible.  The fractional quantum state hydrogen atoms are called hydrinos.  The result of regular hydrogen atoms becoming hydrinos is a release of super high frequency ultraviolet light (hence the company's name "BlackLight" Power, Inc.) with an energy density 200 times higher than known chemical reactions, e.g. the direct combustion of hydrogen and oxygen.  The energy density of hydrino energy is thus less than nuclear fission but greater than burning petrol.  Not bad huh?  You could go off the grid completely with a generator based off this technology!

The following site has the best explanation I have found yet on Randell Mills own unique theory and model of the atom (Millsian Model), which actually has some of the same math equations (or at least very similar) and calculated results as the Bohr Model or Quantum Mechanical Model (what we are taught in school) but with the advantage of being much more straightforwards (no more probabilities involved, just straight-forwards classical physics/math) and, as Randell Mills claims, produces more accurate theoretical predictions.  Einstein would be pleased.  See Comparing Randell Mills's Model of the atom with the Bohr Model for the details (and math).

Trust me I am no physicist, so I don't understand completely everything in the above article either (grin).

Test Results of Rossi E-CAT HT and HT2 LENR Device(s) Published to arXiv.org

Date: 5/31/2013
by: admin
The phys.org article Tests find Rossi's E-Cat has an energy density at least 10 times higher than any conventional energy source dated 5/23/2013 indicates that seven co-authors have published a paper concerning their independent energy measurements of the Andrea Rossi E-Cat HT and HT2 LENR (Low Energy Nuclear Reaction) device(s) to arXiv.org.  If correct, the results of the test indicate an energy density far beyond that of any other conventional energy sources, although not as great as nuclear (e.g. plutonium per the plot below).
Ragone plot of the energy density vs power density, credit Phys.Org and Forbes
LENR was initially colloquially termed "cold fusion" and made its debut in March 23, 1989 when Stanley Pons and Martin Fleischmann announced an as-yet unknown kind of nuclear reaction which could occur at room temperature.  At first there was much hope and fan fair as the public's imagination was captured by the potential of a cheap, clean, abundant and non-polluting energy source.  The hopes were dashed as Pons and Fleischmann (excellent chemists in their field) were quickly and unfairly thrown under the bus, as other scientists were unable to reproduce their results in short order (due in part to a tainted supply of palladium).  Pons and Fleishmann were also the victims of some ugly political intrigue.  For details, see Eugene Mallove's book Fire from Ice: Searching for the Truth Behind the Cold Fusion Furor.

The press/public have been disappointed once before.  Will the second time be the charm?  In the wake of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster the world could certainly use a new form of nuclear energy which produces no meltdowns or harmful nuclear waste.  Devices like Rossi's promise just that, clean, cheap, portable and abundant energy which produces no waste except for possibly the excess heat generated.  Although Rossi has his detractors I personally hope the man succeeds.

George H. Miley at NETS: “Let’s find out what’s there"

Source: Cold Fusion Now

by: Ruby Carat

Cold Fusion Now attended the Nuclear and Emerging Technology for Space NETS conference held in conjunction with the Lunar and Planetary Institute‘s meeting the week of March 19 in The Woodlands, Texas. It was a fortuitous stop to catch Session 462: Advanced Concepts: LENR, Anti-Matter, and New Physics [.pdf here].
Talks entitled Advanced Propulsion Physics: Harnessing the Quantum Vacuum by Harry “Sonny” White and Project Icarus: Antimatter Catalyzed Fusion Propulsion for Interstellar Missions by R. K. Obousy, not to mention Y. E. Kim‘s Cryogenic Ignition of Deuteron Fusion in Micro/nano Scale Metal Particles, promised a worthwhile trip.

George H. Miley, Professor Emeritus of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champagne UIUC was also scheduled to speak on A Game-Changing Power Source for Spacecraft [.pdf here], a talk outlining a LENR-based General Purpose Heating Source to replace the plutonium currently used in today’s Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generators RTGs that provide heat and electricity to power science instruments on spacecraft.

[Editor's Note: I just wanted to supplement the above excellent and already comprehensive article by Ruby Carat with some additional background information on the Patterson Cell mentioned.  The Patterson Cell did apparently produce over unity in various measurements but the inability to manufacture the microbeads used in the cell consistently prevented it from reaching the consumer market.  Also, both the inventor James Patterson and his grandson Jim Reding who formed Clean Energy Technologies together have since passed away.  Dr. George Miley worked with James Patterson and discovered that microbeads with a lot of defects in their coating rather than those with a smooth surface worked far better in trapping and collecting together hydrogen or deuterium nuclei to produce the desired nuclear active effect.

Brillouin Energy Corporation's Hypothesis on the Mechanics of "Cold Fusion" is Similar to Widom-Larsen Theory

Brillouin Energy Corporation has apparently arrived independently upon their own hypothesis for the mechanics behind the Fleishmann-Pons Effect (cold "fusion"), which is actually very similar to the Widom-Larsen theory.  According to Robert Godes the Chief Technology Officer, their own proprietary method of bringing about the Fleishman-Pons Effect is done via CECR (Controlled Electron Capture Reaction).  In CECR a proton is induced to absorb an electron by firing an electromagnetic wave generated by Brillouin’s proprietary electronic pulse generator in to a suitable metal hydride.  An endothermic reaction occurs in which some of the protons in the metal absorb an electron to form low energy (higher mass) neutrons and neutrinos.

The low energy neutrons produced are then capable of being captured by the nuclei of surrounding atoms.  The metal lattice of suitable composition, such as Palladium or Nickel, is loaded (infused) with light or heavy (deuterium) hydrogen before-hands.  When the nucleus of an atom absorbs one of the low energy neutrons, a new isotope of the element is created.  If the newly created isotope is of an unstable variety, one of the neutrons in the nucleus will beta decay in to a proton and electron.  The original atom therefore is transformed in to a heavier element (original atomic number +1 proton).  A large amount of energy, in the form of heat, is released as well.

Thus what Martin Fleishmann and Stanley Pons described back in 1989 as being cold "fusion" is quite possibly not really the fusing of two nuclei, but rather the result of weak nuclear interactions as hypothesized by Robert Godes, Dr. Allan Widom, Lewis Larsen, Brian Ahern or others.

There is a really good simplified explanation of the Widom-Larsen theory described by Dr. Srivastava in his lecture at the New Energy Times website titled, 13. Widom-Larsen Theory Simplified.  If you are lost, that is the key article to read for an explanation.  Most scientists believe that the Coulomb barrier (the repulsive force between the nucleus of atoms which contain positively charged protons) is not possible to be overcome at low temperatures and pressures in order for fusion to take place (under normal conditions on the Earth for example).  Fusion of Hydrogen atoms is theorized to occur on the Sun, where the high temperature and pressure caused by gravity allow the Hydrogen nuclei to overcome the Coulomb barrier and combine to make Helium and a large amount of energy.

The Widom-Larsen theory proposes that "weak interactions" are responsible for what originally was described as cold "fusion" by Martin Fleishmann and Stanley Pons in 1989.  Rather than actual fusion taking place, what the WL theory proposes is that protons combine with electrons to form ULM "ultra-low momentum" neutrons and neutrinos (reverse beta decay) which are then absorbed by the nucleus of atoms.  Since the charge of a neutron is neutral, there is no Coulomb barrier to overcome.  It is proposed by WL theory that once the atom absorbs the ULM neutron, a new isotope of the original element is created which may actually be unstable.  The absorbed neutron in the now unstable isotope would then "beta decay" to create a proton and electron so that the atomic number of the original element's atom that absorbed the neutron is increased by 1, thus being transformed in to a new heavier element.  This entire process creates a lot of excess heat not explainable by a chemical reaction.  So on the surface it appears that fusing of elements has occurred when in fact it was neutron absorption and beta decay...

Cold Fusion, Oil and the US Dollar

Source: e-cat site
Date: 2/7/2012

In the last few articles, an attempt has been made on this site to explore some real world scenarios that may be taking place behind the scenes in regards to cold fusion and how government and otherwise influential entities, like corporations and the military, may be responding to the increasing body of evidence that cold fusion/LENR has not been debunked and in fact its existence is supported by an ever growing amount of evidence, and being confirmed by a wider and wider group of scientists and researchers.  If you have not read Tom Baccei’s previous articles that explore such scenarios, they can be found here and here.  These have attempts to explain why in spite of the growing evidence (actually undeniable if one takes the time to review the evidence contained on this site and elsewhere, especially lenr-canr.org), the defining moment where the reality of this technology becomes apparent to the masses continues to be elusive.  NASA’s January 12 LENR video was very nearly the push that was needed to take this subject out of the shadows.  It actually succeeded but only for a very brief time.  Below are two charts related to LENR searches on Google.  The first chart plots Google searches for the term LENR from 2004 to the present.  The second chart plots Google searches for the term NASA LENR from 2004 to the present.

The most controversial has the highest potential impact

1. Energy Revolution - Mass produced fission, fusion, and maybe cold fusion

There is the highly controversial possibility of Rossi-Focardi Energy catalyzer.

Brillouin Energy is another cold fusion contender

There is also work in this area by Brian Ahern and NASA and other agencies are investigating it.

EMC2 Fusion, Lawrenceville Plasma Physics, General Fusion and/or Tri-alpha energy could develop a first full scale prototype commercial system by Dec, 2016. Those are also somewhat controversial, but less so than the cold fusion. Australia Star Scientific with a claimed breakthrough with muon fusion.

A desktop high frequency fusion system has been proposed for space propulsion and energy generation.

In Chapman’s aneutronic fusion reactor scheme, a commercially available benchtop laser starts the reaction. A beam with energy on the order of 2 x 10^18 watts per square centimeter, pulse frequencies up to 75 megahertz, and wavelengths between 1 and 10 micrometers is aimed at a two-layer, 20-centimeter-diameter target.

High frequency lasers are an area that is rapidly progressing.

I think high frequency lasers and General Fusion are the most likely to succeed. The High frequency laser approach needs to get a deep pocketed champion.

China is well underway with their first pebble bed reactors. The first one will be done by about 2015. This is not controversial and the construction project is underway.

Other small modular nuclear fission reactor projects are underway but most will not have their first units built until 2018-2020 or later

China could have a prototype molten salt thorium reactor by Dec, 2016.

Mr. Rossi Goes to Market, Dr. Miley and Others Hope to Follow

Source: e-CAT Site
Date: 11/3/2011

Italian inventor Andrea Rossi continues with commercialization of his e-Cat (energy catalyzer).  In addition to the 1MW plant he tested and reportedly sold to an unnamed customer, he also reports already having sold two or more additional units.  He reports that these were to customers in the USA and Europe.  While he states that the new customers are not requesting the same level of secrecy, a certain amount of discretion will still be exercised, adding that eventually the identity of his customers will inevitably become apparent.  Mr. Rossi reports having production facilities in Bedford, NH and Miami, FL, and plans for the next year are to sell from 30 to 100 1MW cold fusion plants, at a cost of 2 million Euros or 2.8 million U.S. Dollars.  This information can be found on Mr. Rossi’s blog, Journal of Nuclear Physics.

While the Associated Press was present at the October 28th test of Mr., Rossi’s 1 MW cold fusion plant, they have yet to run a story covering the event.  Whether they are exercising prudence or something less noble remains to be seen.  AP reporter Peter Svensson, who was present at the test, has tweeted several times on the subject in response to inquiries about the event.  On Monday, October 31, Mr. Svensson tweeted “Sorry, I can’t tell you anything at this point.”  Later that day he tweeted again, stating “Sorry, we don’t comment on coverage plans.”  These rather cryptic tweets were followed yesterday by “All I can say is “stay tuned.”   For whatever reason the AP continues to keep this story under wraps,  in the end it may be inconsequential.  Other news outlets have begun to report on the story, from Fox News, CNN,  Forbes and Discovery News, to popular publications in such places as Sweden, Russia and Italy.  Perhaps the most balanced story I have seen on the subject so far was posted on the site of a U.S. Daily newspaper  Falls Church News Press of Falls Church, Virginia, which is about  10 miles outside of Washington, D.C.  I would strongly urge all readers to take a look at this article.

Customer of 1 MW E-CAT Cold Fusion Power Plant Accepts Technology After Their Own Independent Testing

October 28, 2011 was an important day in the world of cold fusion (Low Energy Nuclear Reactions) and exotic energy technology.  The currently anonymous customer of Andrea Rossi's 1 MW E-CAT cold fusion power plant sent in their own scientists and engineers to test the device which is comprised of more than 100 E-CAT modules which have been built in to a shipping container.  Journalists were allowed to attend the event, including Peter Svensson, technology writer for the Associated Press.

The following two very timely articles by PESN and NYTeknik go over observations of the 10/28/2011 test and have links to the results and sign-off by the customer's representative giving approval for the functionality of the 1 MW power plant:
  1. 1 MW E-Cat Cold Fusion Device Test Successful, Sterling D. Allen, PESN
  2. Half a megawatt E-cat in Bologna, Mats Lewan, MYTeknik
I really look forwards to the Associated Press article which should come out shortly in the next few days (pending editor approval) because, although PESN and NYTeknik do some excellent work, the AP has broader readership and the ability to speed up public interest and adoption of cold fusion technology.  With an estimated cost of less than 1 cent per kWh compared to all conventional power sources, energy this clean, cheap and portable has the ability to transform (and/or save) economies and create a great deal of wealth and higher standard of living for all human beings.

Below is a chart taken from PesWiki (Pure Energy Systems Wikipedia) showing the cost per kWh of many common energy sources:
[...]

Traditional Power Generation

Lowest price listed first
Method Cents/kW-h Limitations and Externalities
Gas

Currently supplies around 15% of the global electricity demand.
3.9 - 4.4 Cents/kW-h Gas-fired plants and generally quicker and less expensive to build than coal or nuclear, but a relatively high percentage of the cost/KWh is derived from the cost of the fuel. Due to the current (and projected future) upwards trend in gas prices, there is uncertainty around the cost / KWh over the lifetime of plants. Gas burns more cleanly than coal, but the gas itself (largely methane) is a potent greenhouse gas. Some energy conversions to calculate your cost of natural gas per kwh. 100 cubic feet (CCF)~ 1 Therm = 100,000 btu ~ 29.3 kwh.
Coal

Currently supplies around 38% of the global electricity demand.
4.8 - 5.5 Cents/kW-h Increasingly difficult to build new coal plants in the developed world, due to environmental requirements governing the plants. Growing concern about coal fired plants in the developing world (China, for instance, imposes less environmental overhead, and has large supplies of high sulphur content coal). The supply of coal is plentiful, but the coal generation method is perceived to make a larger contribution to air pollution than the rest of the methods combined.
Nuclear

Currently supplies around 24% of the global electricity demand.
11.1 - 14.5 Cents/kW-h Political difficulties in using nuclear in some nations. Risk of widespread (and potentially lethal) contamination upon containment failure. Fuel is plentiful, but problematic. Waste disposal remains a significant problem, and de-commissioning is costly (averaging approximately US $320MM per plant in the US).

Conventional, Renewable Power Generation

Lowest price listed first
Method Cents/kW-h Limitations and Externalities
Wind

Currently supplies approximately 1.4% of the global electricity demand. Wind is considered to be about 30% reliable.
4.0 - 6.0 Cents/kW-h Wind is currently the only cost-effective alternative energy method, but has a number of problems. Wind farms are highly subject to lightning strikes, have high mechanical fatigue failure, are limited in size by hub stress, do not function well, if at all, under conditions of heavy rain, icing conditions or very cold climates, and are noisy and cannot be insulated for sound reduction due to their size and subsequent loss of wind velocity and power.
Geothermal

Currently supplies approximately 0.23% of the global electricity demand. Geothermal is considered 90-95% reliable.
4.5 - 30 Cents/kW-h New low temperature conversion of heat to electricity is likely to make geothermal substantially more plausible (more shallow drilling possible) and less expensive. Generally, the bigger the plant, the less the cost and cost also depends upon the depth to be drilled and the temperature at the depth. The higher the temperature, the lower the cost per kwh. Cost may also be affect by where the drilling is to take place as concerns distance from the grid and another factor may be the permeability of the rock.
Hydro

Currently supplies around 19.9% of the global electricity demand. Hydro is considered to be 60% reliable.
5.1 - 11.3 Cents/kW-h Hydro is currently the only source of renewable energy making substantive contributions to global energy demand. Hydro plants, however, can (obviously) only be built in a limited number of places, and can significantly damage aquatic ecosystems.
Solar

Currently supplies approximately 0.8% of the global electricity demand.
15 - 30 Cents/kW-h Solar power has been expensive, but soon is expected to drop to as low as 3.5 cents/kW-h. Once the silicon shortage is remedied through alternative materials, a solar energy revolution is expected.

Non-Conventional, Available, Renewable Power Generation Technologies

Lowest price listed first
Method Cents/kW-h Limitations and Externalities
Tide

2 - 5 Cents/kW-h Blue Energy's tidal fence, engineered and ready for implementation, would provide a land bridge (road) while also generating electricity. Environmental impact is low. Tides are highly predictable.

Non-Conventional, Emerging, Renewable Power Generation Technologies

Lowest price listed first
Method Cents/kW-h Limitations and Externalities
Atmospheric Cold Megawatts

.03 - 1.0 Cents/kW-h Typical installation requires 1 - 2 pipelines approximately 300km in length. Endpoints are placed to maximize historical atmospheric pressure differentials. After construction is complete, however, maintenance is minimal, no raw materials are required, and no environmental externalities are produced.
Thermal Electric

3 - 15 Cents/kW-h ENECO Chip is a "solid state energy conversion/generation chip" that will convert heat directly into electricity. Is more efficient than solar and substantially cheaper. Can be applied to waste heat as well.
OTEC (Ocean Energy Thermal Conversion)

6 - 25 Cents/kW-h Presently not functioning but two plants are to be built. One (agout 1.3 megawatts) is to be started in Kona next year and the other much larger one (about 13 megawatts) is also to be built somewhere in the state later on for the military. I believe that the military spending guide lines state that there must be a reduction in expenditures for electricity over the next few years. A Breakdown of the technology by OCEES Internation, INC.

[...]
Obviously if companies can get energy that is at least 4-5 times cheaper than conventional sources (as can be garnered from the above chart compared to < $.01 khW) this would allow them to produce cheaper goods and services as well as increase their bottom line.  Also, the E-CAT cold fusion reactor is highly portable and does not require the capital expenditure necessary to build, for example, a large coal or nuclear power plant.  With the ability for each home or automobile to have its own cold fusion reactor powering it, a decentralized power grid is possible.  Utility costs would get very cheap and individuals could even sell back the excess power generated by their cold fusion reactors at home to the big utility companies to generate a revenue stream for themselves.  The possibilities are endless but new technologies such as this take time to adopt (years) and mature.  For example, the 1MW power plant tested on October 28th only produces heat/steam, not electricity.  Ironing out the details such as converting steam in to electricity, creating steam powered automobile engines or even tweaking the cold fusion reaction to produce electricity directly are some examples of the engineering tasks that can take years to fully develop.

Editor's Note:
My hope is that at least the word can be spread fast about this technology so that it creates public interest and demand.  Once CEO's realize they can cut costs with really clean, cheap energy they will definitely want to adopt cold fusion to reduce their overhead.  For technology companies such as Google or Amazon, server farms require a lot of electricity to keep running.  Factories or office buildings can be heated and powered more efficiently with cold fusion heaters or generators as well.  Car companies will want to develop new product lines based on cold fusion powered engines, which consumers would eagerly welcome due to cheaper operating costs and not needing to refuel for 6 months.  SpaceX and Virgin Galactic will want to adopt the cold fusion technology as a power source for their rockets or space planes.  Individuals will want to install reactors inside their homes to reduce utility costs and sell back electricity to power companies at a premium, etc.

Amazon Founder invests in Canadian Fusion Venture

Source: Cold Fusion - Rossi
Date: 8/12/2011
American billionaire, Jeff Bezos, the man behind Amazon.com has reportedly invested in a Canadian company that is trying to develop a cold fusion process that uses hydrogen and seawater. General Fusion based in Vancouver, British Columbia, reportedly raised $19.5 million in venture capital for the development of a cold fusion or Low Energy Nuclear Reaction process in May. Part of this money apparently came from Bezos’ company Bezos Expeditions.

All is Not Well in Cold Fusion Land

Andrea Rossi, inventor of the E-CAT (energy catalyzer) technology that enables Ni-H (Nickel-Hydrogen) cold fusion, has split with Defkalion Green Technologies. Defkalion Green Technologies is a Greek company that has claimed it has working devices based on Rossi's E-CAT power source tested by both themselves and the Greek government.

Essentially what has happened within the past several days is that Andrea Rossi has accused Defkalion, a licensee of his E-CAT technology, of failing to meet their financial contractual obligations to him and has terminated his partnership with them. More disturbing is that Rossi has stated publicly that he has never disclosed the secret of his E-CAT device to Defkalion.  If Rossi is telling the truth, this suggests that claims Defkalion has created working devices based on the E-CAT which have already been tested by the Greek government are false.

What we do know for sure is that someone is lying, either Andrea Rossi or Defkalion Green Technologies representatives.

Andrea Rossi is continuing his relationship with the American partner Ampenergo.

This rift between Rossi and Defkalion is really bad publicity for cold fusion, or other similar LENR (Low Energy Nuclear Reaction) technologies, which already have a credibility problem with mainstream science. I am sure skeptics will descend upon this latest development like a school of sharks.

Dr. Brian Josephson, winner of the 1973 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on superconductivity, has recently released a YouTube video of an interview of himself conducted by Judith Driscoll, Professor of Materials Science at Cambridge University. The stated purpose of the video is to wake up the media to the E-Cat story, which has not been widely reported on in the mainstream media of the English-speaking world. While some cold fusion advocates hypothesize the existence of a conspiracy of silence to suppress news with such important implications, Josephson suggests the silence is more due to an unwillingness of the traditional media outlets (both general and scientific) to risk appearing credulous by simply reporting on the story.

GREECE's ANSWER TO THE INTERNATIONAL CRISIS

HYDROGEN & NICKEL EXOTHERMIC REACTION

CHEAP, CLEAN & GREEN ENERGY

Thursday 23rd June, 2011
[omissis]

RSVP: [omissis]                                                A Reception will follow

Today, there is great pessimism regarding the future energy needs of our planet. Energy will soon become universally cheap, clean and readily usable.

Andrea Rossi and Sergio Focardi have discovered and patented a technology that will change the world’s energy field. This technology will be made commercially available by Defkalion Green Technologies s.a., a Greek company.

By combining Hydrogen and Nickel to create an exothermic reaction (at room temperatures and in a device that can be safely placed in households and also industry) heat is emitted on a 24-hour basis. This energy is produced at a fraction of the cost in comparison to currently available energy sources, it is clean and totally green. Furthermore, using conventional, readily available third-party technologies, the heat can also be used to produce electricity.

Defkalion Green Technologies s.a. has secured exclusive distribution rights for the entire world, except for the USA and military applications. It will start production and first distribution of its products from its factory in Xanthi for the Greek and Balkan markets, initially. Two more factories are scheduled within 2012. International sales are already strong in demand, which will spur exports.

Suffice to say, that Greece possesses 83% of Europe’s Nickel deposits, a key strategic consideration. Furthermore, at this time of the global financial crisis, Greece is faced with a golden opportunity to become energy self-sufficient, gain in employment in one of its most underdeveloped regions, as well as become a technological leader in this new scientific field.

The press conference will comprise of undisclosed to-date information relating the technology’s commercial and industrial applications, the company’s strategic placements, as well as commercial issues that are of interest not only to Defkalion’s future customers, but also to the political society of our country. It goes without saying that such an important development also possesses a strong international dimension in many aspects.

Sincerely,
Defkalion Green Technologies s.a.
If you have been following the news on Greece, they are currently facing political and economic turmoil, as the Greek people protest their government and the austerity measures implemented to qualify for EU/IMF bailout loans.  The European sovereign debt crisis is a recurring theme which first became of concern in late 2009 when there were worries Greece, Portugal and Ireland would default.  The crisis resurfaced in May and June of 2010 and has now reared its ugly head again.  Today the Prime Minister of Greece George Papandreou faces a no-confidence vote in the Greek Parliament at midnight, Greece time (Tuesday, June 21 5 PM EST), which is one of the hurdles that must be overcome in order for Greece to receive bailout loans from the EU/IMF, and other entities.

How did a small Greek company get the rights to distribute this groundbreaking technology in all of Europe?  Here is the background.  The Vice President of Defkalion Green Technologies, Professor Christos Stremmenos, is the man responsible for bringing cold fusion to Greece.  Christos Stremmenos is both a scientist who has done his own research and experiments with cold fusion and a former Greek ambassador to Italy.  Professor Stremmenos at one point had moved to Italy to marry an Italian woman and teach at the University of Bologna, which is where he met experimental physicist Sergio Focardi, friend and business partner to Andrea Rossi (holder of the E-CAT patents and creator of the secret catalysts which make cold fusion possible).  Professor Stremmenos worked with the Greek government in order to set up the €200 million Defkalion factory in Xanthi, Greece which will manufacture the cold fusion E-CAT devices starting in 2012.  Per Swedish publication NY Teknik the factory has the capacity to produce 300,000 E-CATs a year with the first year targeting 40,000 units.  Note that Professor Stremmenos, is a personal friend of George Papandreou, the Prime Minister of Greece, and did relay information to his old friend regarding developments in cold fusion.  Apparently Papandreou expressed some enthusiasm/belief in the idea at the time of the disclosure. [1]  Quoting from the English translation/transcript of the Christos Stremmenos interview by Italian radio program Cittร  del Capo:

I just wanted to ask you something like this, seeing that you also have a past experience as a diplomatic representative in Italy; so, as to your specific role. You were active with the Greek Government to further the experimentation of this plant. … What is your role?
I understand your question, Doctor [laughs]. This thing, well it’s like with old loves. When I retired, I wanted to set up my own lab and quietly continue my research. But I did inform George Papandreou, the current Prime Minister, who at the time was President of PASOK. In the Convention which elected him, there were these commissions working on various aspects of the Greek economy. These were supposed to lay down the most favoured Party’s platform for government. So I told him, “George, look” — I explained — “I’m still working on this”. So at the Convention he says: “You know, I believe in this thing too, but who knows when it will come about” “I don’t know”, I said, “ truth and fate we haven’t got, but we must support and pursue this line”.
This is why, George Papandreou … Focardi phoned me a couple of years ago: “Listen Christos, the quality leap has come. Rossi has found a way to …” “But did you measure the ...?” “Yes, I took the measurements myself and I have seen the input energy amplified 200 times, and that’s not all...”. I didn’t know Rossi at the time, because he was in the US. “That’s not all”, he said, “I am witness to the fact that Eon, over there near Ferrara, what’s the place called...[1]

Could cold fusion save the Greek economy?  Not in the very short term.  Greece's short term survival is based on political concerns and getting legislation passed to meet requirements for getting bailout loans.  The people of Greece are not happy, which is due to cuts in social services, government jobs and apprehension about forced privatization.  Riots on the streets, strikes and power blackouts are the result.  Cold fusion should, however, make a revolutionary impact in the long term in both Greece and the rest of the world and I tend to agree with the optimism expressed in the press conference invitation letter.

In closing I will leave you with another quote from the Stremmenos interview with Cittร  del Capo:
...
So this could be very important for a country like Greece, which lately has had very big economic problems, social tensions … it could also be an important development ...

That's right, we will see this later. With extreme caution, we need to do things right. It applies not only to Greece ... this thing is for the whole planet, if developed properly, so as not to succumb through the marketing of the oil companies and all the others.
With other forms of renewable, alternative energy, I believe that there can be a fairly constructive coexistence. It is clear that the problem is that we must eliminate carbon dioxide from this planet. Climate change is not an opinion, not a scientific verdict, it is a reality that we live day by day, so we have to work on it. As for the question why both Rossi and Focardi have convinced themselves that Greece is a suitable country: it’s because we do not have primary energy sources outside of hydropower. And lignite of course, but there isn’t a more polluting fuel than that ...[1]

Andrea Rossi At The First Public Demonstration Of His Energy Catalyzer

In one of the most recent question and answer sessions on Andrea Rossi's "Journal Of Nuclear Physics" Rossi confirms that provision has been made in the event he were to be suicided or the project was forcibly shut down.

Many people have been concerned that such a disruptive technology such as Rossi's energy catalyzer would provoke a strong negative reaction among elements of the military industrial complex and corporations hell bent on protecting their power and profit.
